Safe mode

Safe Mode is a special diagnostic mode in all Windows versions from 95 through XP. (and presumably Vista)

To access it, repeatedly press F8 as Windows begins to load following the BIOS's self-testing phase. A menu will appear with a variety of boot options of which Safe Mode is one.
