Talk:FSX FPS Guide
From PMDG Ops
Great guide!! I'd suggest a final chapter of external links for further information instead of (or in addition to) scattered references along the text.

Typo in CFG Tweaks section
"C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\(Your Windows User Name)\Microsoft\FSX" should be "C:\Documents and Settings\(Your Windows User Name)\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX"?

Also, under vista, it states the file path as "C:\Users\(Your Windows User Name)\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX" when it is actually "C:\Users\(Your Windows User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX". -Snugg 22:41, 27 July 2008 (CDT)
FPS
Great Article !!
I use almost the exact same settings as in the article. However, having not read the article at the time of installation, it took me two days to figure it all out. I have to run the Autogen low or off. And I too think the new water effect looks better turned down or all the way off.
I could not agree more with the author about having Windows cleaned up, board drivers, video drivers, CPU DRIVERS, etc all up to date, and your disk drive defragged. After installation a defrag is a must.
Anyway, maybe I misssed it but I'd like to know what FPS range the author gets with that setup.
I get from 26 to 60+ (usually high 30's to low 40's at KMIA and KIAH) on the following system (no PMDG planes yet though)
AMD 64 X2 4800; 2GB matched DDR400; MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI; XFX 7950 GX2 520M 1GB video; SB XFi sound
Some Suggestions
Should mention that default value for the BufferPools mod is 1000000 and that increasing it to 5000000 or 10000000 may help if you are getting stutters/pops during turns or when you pan your view around.

This One reduces the complexity of the special autogen buildings. For example, instead of having 8 different types of gasoline stations, they will now all be the same. This mostly affects urban areas.
This One simply gets rid of some of the special autogen buildings completely, including gas stations, fast food, water towers and transformers. But leaves many of the larger buildings such as power plants and leaves the agricultural buildings.
